I am reminded a bit of the same feeling as when playing chess - there is a fair amount of planning that goes into every move, and weighing the advantages of striking fast but taking additional damage versus defending but anticipating the enemy will have had time to build up an even worse attack later. When I first bought this, I defeated the first major boss and a few nodes after in 2 hours straight - it only felt like 1 hour though.

It's also fun to realize "no I should have played it in a different order!" afterwards. There is no time limit so I can take my time. It is very satisfying to work through all the possibilities on any given turn to figure out the next move. And I really enjoy forming a deck that builds power multipliers on itself. I can still enjoy all the math the game throws in front of me. Well it turns out that no, that's not so bad. But secretly there is a little inner voice I sometimes foster that says "can't you learn to write!?" But if they cannot - then this is the hand we are dealt - card games with poorly written descriptions that are written by people I can never expect to do better (and I must still keep asking "can't you do better?" just in case). It might only mean that I have to play the game for a while before learning all the "oh we forgot to mention that" rules on the cards - which turns it into a memory game too. I never understood that this was why I never liked deck-building card games until l played this.Įach card has the power to change the rules of the game, but I can only appreciate that if I can easily parse what the description of the rule-change says - and more often than not the description is not completely clear. "Gain 2 strength" but the card forgets to mention that it only lasts 2 turns. The problem with card games, specifically deck-building card games that have descriptions of what the card's effect is, is that the descriptions on the card are always missing some important detail. regular playing cards weren't even something I grew up with due to my parent's religious beliefs - so I didn't grow up playing a lot of card games either. I once lost a job interview because they were making a deck-building game - and I wasn't really into card games. Also some upgrades to cards can be massive and multiply the complementary effect.
